چکیده

This study was aimed to isolate and characterize antibiotic producing fungi from the soil environment within Ahmadu Bello University main campus Samaru, Zaria. Soil samples were collected five different locations for Isolation of fungi. Spread plate method involving serial dilution technique used using Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Six species isolated then characterized microscopically macroscopically. The Aspergillus niger, fumigatus, sp, Penicillium Fusarium sp (P14) (P15). Sensitivity test Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli Klebsiella pneumoniae as pathogens employed determine ability fungal isolates produce antimicrobials. All found inhibit growth at least one except (P14). niger produces zones inhibition 9mm, 5mm 6mm against coli, pneumoniae, fumigatus pneumoniae. produced aureus which a zone 10mm, 7mm findings this show that antibiotic-producing fungus are prevalent in University's Zaria, these strains could be by pharmaceutical companies antibiotics local sources.

Studies on Isolation and Characterization of Antibiotic Producing Microorganisms from Industrial Waste Soil Sample

Antibiotics are one of the most important commercially exploited secondary metabolites produced by the bacteria and employed in a wide range. Most of the antibiotic producers used today are the soil microbes. Fungal strains and streptomyces members are extensively used in industrial antibiotic production. Bacteria are easy to isolate, culture, maintain and to improve their strains. Microbes are...

Isolation, Molecular Characterization and Identification of Antibiotic Producing Actinomycetes from Soil Samples

Article history: Received on: 09/05/2017 Accepted on: 07/07/2017 Available online: 30/09/2017 A total of 9 actinomycetes (FA1-FA9) isolates were isolated from soil and water samples using starch casein agar and actinomycetes isolation agar. Except FA4, all the isolates showed antimicrobal activity against one or more of the bacteria (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebisella pneumonia...

Isolation of antibacterial material-producing bacteria from saline soil

Saline soils are widely spread in Iran. These intact soils are a great source for the isolation of new bacteria with highly functional metabolites in biotechnology. Actinomycete strains were isolated on starch casein agar and ISP2 with different concentrations of sodium chloride (0, 5 and 10%) from treated soil samples. Pure colonies were cultured on a casein glycerol medium. After complete gro...
